Who I am

Michaela Humphrey Accountancy is a sole practice based at 94 Chesterfield Road, Goring-by-Sea, Worthing, West Sussex BN12 6BZ. I am the data controller for the information described here, and I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under registration number ZC228498.

If you have any question about this notice, or about the information I hold on you, email info@michaelahumphreyaccountancy.com or ring 07884 098447.

Information collected through this website

If you fill in the enquiry form, I collect your name, email address, phone number if you give one, the description you select, and whatever you write in the message box. That is used only to reply to you and to work out whether I can help.

Form submissions are processed and stored by Netlify, who host this website, and are then emailed to me. Enquiries that don't turn into work are deleted within twelve months.

This site sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising trackers.

Information collected if you become a client

To do the work you engage me for, I need considerably more: your contact and identity details, National Insurance and Unique Taxpayer Reference numbers, income and expenditure records, bank details, payroll and pension information, and details of your business. Where you employ people, that includes information about them too.

Identity documents are collected to meet anti-money-laundering obligations, which is a legal requirement rather than a choice.

Why I am allowed to hold it

Different information rests on different legal grounds:

  • To perform our contract — the accountancy work you have engaged me to do.
  • To meet legal obligations — filing with HMRC and Companies House, and anti-money-laundering checks.
  • Legitimate interests — replying to enquiries and keeping records to defend against any future claim.

Who I share it with

Your information is shared only where the work requires it, or where the law does. That means HMRC and Companies House, the accounting software you use, my email and file-storage providers, and any pension provider where I run your payroll. Where I need to bring in another professional, I will ask you first.

I do not sell your information, and I do not share it for marketing.

How long I keep it

Client records are kept for six years after the end of our working relationship, which reflects HMRC record-keeping requirements and the time limit for claims. Anti-money-laundering records are kept for five years after the relationship ends. After that, records are securely deleted or destroyed.

Your rights

You can ask me for a copy of the information I hold about you, ask me to correct anything inaccurate, ask me to delete it, or object to how it is being used. Some of these rights are limited where I am legally required to keep records — I cannot delete something HMRC requires me to retain.

Email me and I will respond within one month.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please tell me first so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
